Royal Hibernian Academy – Contemporary Irish art

The Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) Gallery is one of Dublin’s less well known artistic attractions. The gallery is completely free and showcases Irish and International contemporary art just of St.Stephen’s Green. It includes both curated galleries, and a gallery dedicated to Irish artists who do not have commercial representation to help raise their profile.

In Summer, the RHA holds its annual exhibition featuring work from hundreds of contemporary Irish artists, all of which is on sale throughout. I had only ever visited the RHA for this exhibition in the past but last February I was drawn in again by a fantastic war photography exhibition from the DRC. This is a great place to get a taste of Irish contemporary art, and easy to combine with other attractions given its central location. The Little Museum of Dublin, The National Gallery, The Natural History Museum and the National Museum are all just a few minutes walk away. Downstairs, you can also visit the excellent Coppa Cafe, or you can head to Etto for a bite for dinner.
