Scout has a special place in my heart after curing all my Christmas shopping anxieties. I spent weeks agonising over presents for my mum and my aunt, both of whom love beautiful homewares. A recent opening on Essex Street near Christchurch Cathedral, it is a treasure trove of carefully curated clothes, accessories, and homeware from both local designers and ones further afield. This is where you go for a gift for that person with such immaculate taste that you are terrified of choosing something for them.
The staff are friendly and helpful, and they ship worldwide as well. You can see a lot of the stuff on sale on their webshop, but it is no substitute for a nice little browse in one of Dublin’s best new areas. The older part of Temple Bar has turned into a bit of a tourist trap but the new area around Cow’s Lane has loads of great design shops opening up. The Gutter Bookshop and Tamp and Stitch are just across the road from Scout and the Cow’s Lane Design Market runs on Saturdays.
