Living in Ireland for a while now I cannot stop being fascinated by the fact that the sea is all around the Emerald Isle and wherever you live it would never take too long to reach the water. Dublin is one of the great places to discover sandy beaches all along the east coast throughout the year. Now the days have come when I go swimming there now and then, and many locals even do it all year around.
But most of the time I just come to the seaside to sit and read a book and take in some fresh air. One of the great places to do so is a little beach located between the Seapoint and Monkstown Dart Stations. It has a small changing area and quite good bathrooms (note that you won’t very often see a public WC in Ireland). Only 15 minutes by train from Pearse Street and I was in a tiny city paradise – with plenty of swimming enthusiasts all around! If you want to join them, be aware of high tides from time to time – check them here. People also come here to sail here, but also just to sit and enjoy some sun on a quiet day like me in my lunch break.
Where else in the capital city in the north of Europe can you get that close to the sea? It is fun, I highly recommend you spend an afternoon there if you happen to be in Dublin!
