One of the things I’m always on a lookout for in Dublin is new coffeeshops! Even though I’m not the kind of person to spend afternoon hours in there with my laptop, and most of the coffee I buy is takeaway, I still enjoy the vibe a lot. I find it amazing that in a city with multiple big coffee chains, there are still lots of tiny independent cafes serving amazing coffee (no offence, Starbucks!).
Shoe Lane Coffee is a small coffee shop just a few steps away from the Tara Street DART station, and it’s close to the river, and O’Connell bridge, and pretty much everything in the city centre. The name gives homage to the old name of Tara St., famed in the 19th century for its shoe shops.
The coffee is simply great, I would especially recommend the flat white, but they have something for every taste. They also highly encourage bringing your own reusable coffee mugs, and not only does it save the planet, but it can get you a small discount too!
I have to mention the pastries as well: I’m not such a huge fan myself, but can’t resist their almond croissant. You can also go for the highly rated orange chocolate brownies, Danish pastry or scones, and there are some vegan options available. It’s most popular at lunchtime, but I usually drop by every time I’m in the area.
