Part kitschy boudoir, part child’s bedroom, Lucy’s Lounge is utterly brilliant. Temple Bar has a plethora of unoriginal, overpriced vintage clothes shops, not to mention the multitude of ‘alternative clothing’ outlets that line the tourist routes, but this store stands miles out from that crowd.
Walls are lined with retro children’s playthings, one corner houses an ornate jukebox and the rails overflow with an assortment of old and new pieces that combine the best of the by-gone era with tastefully ‘resuscitated’ garments that have been hand-salvaged to fit twenty first century tastes.
Not only this, but ‘Lucy’ also provides an outlet for talented new designers to sell their wares, with a short biography attached – this is how personal shopping is really done. Alongside a great collection of dresses, cardigans and coats is an exquisite range of ostentatious accessories.
Orderly and impersonal it ain’t; Lucy’s Lounge is open only in the afternoon so be sure to spend a while rummaging for a full appreciation of this quirky sanctuary of sorts.
