While Ranelagh might not be as famous as Rathmines for the late night scene, those two neighbourhoods are right next to each other and have a lot in common. Ranelagh is probably a bit less hipster but very fashionable and with a great choice of places for food and a drink.
Taphouse is by far my favourite in the area, and one of my absolute favourites in Dublin. They have lots of craft beers and ciders, the walls are top-to-bottom bookshelves, there’s live music and the overall cosiness – what more can you wish for! Oh, and did I mention the rooftop terrace?
If you’re trying a new beer, not only can you ask for a taste, but they also offer a “Taphouse pour” — 400 ml glasses — so if you’re not sure, you can drink a full pint but if a half is not enough, this one is right in between. The food menu changes a lot, but a late-night kitchen is also available, which makes it one of the best food-and-drink options around. The salads are quite hearty, and the “sliders” (several small burgers) are always popular.
