Living on the north side of Dublin town for a while now I kept hearing from friends and colleagues that the most fun is always happening in the south, Grafton Street, Merrion Square and Stephen’s Green areas. Well, my dear, I am telling you that this is changing now. And a proof of this is a good craic with drinks and food, games and sports – for instance, in The Back Page bar.
Conveniently located a few steps away from the busy city center – but still quite central at the start of the Phibsborough area, slightly hidden behind the Blessington Street Basin (check the Blessington Street basin article), this bar is a true pearl of Dublin. Never as crowded as pubs in town, it can get pretty packed once a game of rugby or soccer is on. But you can play your own games anytime – there is a huge selection of board games available for free, or, when I asked for equipment for a small deposit, I got all that is needed for a game of table tennis upstairs. For those who smoke or love fresh air there is a cozy beer garden outside.
The best comes at the end: every day deals on drinks (three Brahmas for € 10 or similar), craft beers and at the back of the bar – handmade oven pizza. We got a delicious Calzone with our own chosen ingredients for € 11. I will be back, and you should check it out!
