Not far beyond St Patrick’s Cathedral in the very cool Blackpitts, adjacent to the Liberties, this big and bright new cafe has lately opened – much to the delight of the area’s many Mac-wielding home-working hipsters and arty mums.
The food is delicious, though you won’t be getting fat on the portions. The falafel looks like a good bet if you want to avoid shelling out for seconds. The eggs special is very tasty, but need at least a side of (excellent) salad to make a meal.
The coffee and cakes are super and it’s a great space to while away the hours – high ceilings, appealing art, marbled tiling, good greenery and gold religious icons.
A perfect venue for intimate performances (comedian David O’Doherty did an early morning gig here a while back and it’s been the location for record launches too), and it’s now open on Saturdays too.
It’s just round the corner from a couple of galleries/studios, including Mill Street Studios and South Studios, and nearby to the excellent Fallon’s (check the Fallons article).
