Want some drinks after a show, or somewhere to relax with friends before heading on to a club later on in the night? Banshee Labyrinth has got you covered. Managing to be both friendly and creepy, ‘Banshee’ is a great late night-haunt, partly for the relative cheapness of its drinks, and relaxed atmosphere, but mainly because it’s open till 03:00.
As you walk in, you feel as if you’re entering a dungeon: low ceilings, dim lighting, also plenty of leather jackets and beards. The staff are friendly, and there are plenty of tables and booths where you can have a quiet drink: they have several good Scottish beers on tap. They do have a full food menu, but there are better options around town if you’re looking for a sit-down meal.
It really is a labyrinth, with multiple levels and corridors. Rock and metal bands often play on the small downstairs stage, and there is a dining room for private functions. But Banshee Labyrinth’s trump card is in its back room: an entire cinema room, playing films for free till the early morning! It may just be the most surreal experience of your Edinburgh visit – just make sure to avoid canoodling couples.
