I stumbled upon this little gem of a restaurant soon after its opening, and after recognising the owner as the manager of another one of my favourite restaurants, I had high expectations. Bodega is a small bit stunningly creative Mexican restaurant. It specialises in small plates of soft tacos with the most mouth-watering combinations such as avocado tempura with wasabi mayo and Asian slaw, Jamaican jerk pork and bata-style crispy cod bites. I loved the combinations so much I had real difficulty choosing only a few plates. It keeps me coming back, especially as the menu tries to use as much fresh seasonal produce as possible, so the specials change and keep things exciting.
This place is great for vegans and meat eaters, which can be a hard thing to find sometimes, and as a person that loves both, I was not disappointed. I especially loved the soft but crispy cod with the chipotle mayo: it goes great with the avocado panna cotta for dessert, it’s making me hungry just thinking about it!
The restaurant serves a really colourful assortment of Mexican sodas for that authentic touch and the decor does not let it down. Due to it’s location, it is one of the less busier places to check our during the festival and as a design lover, I was immediately captivated by the bright colours and the animated wallpaper; it’s a great addition to the ever-growing Mexican food scene in Edinburgh.
