Fellow spotter, Anson Clark, has already written about the daytime Botanical Gardens experience (which I 100% agree with) but for the last few years the gardens have put on a quite extraordinary light show in the lead up to Christmas. It was previously called Botanic Lights but this year it has been expanded to include dining experiences and a chance to meet Santa.
It’s a mile-long trail that takes you through a visual wonderland of lighting, soundscapes and eye popping spectacle.
The Palm House (above) looks extraordinary lit, as it is, from within.
This year we are promised a choir of singing conifer trees, a fire garden and a crystal lawn.
It sold out last year so you might have to move quickly as places are limited, but from my previous experience I can strongly recommend it. A really special way to enjoy your winter trip to Edinburgh.
Cameras (but not tripods) are allowed (that would make you look too professional and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, its formal name, doesn’t like that.
