One thing I love about Scotland’s cold and dreary weather is that our beaches are unspoilt and free of overpriced tourist traps, they’re beautiful and if you don’t mind wrapping up in your biggest scarf and jumper then they’re wonderful places to go all year round.
One of my new favourite little cafes by Portobello Beach is Dream & Season, a homely, down to earth, friendly place with unspoilt views straight over the beach. It’s one of our best ‘cheap and cheerful’ places, with a perfect all-day breakfast menu including waffles and full fry up, but also some warming soups and toasties, perfect for this time of year.
To top it all off, they have a really stellar selection of cakes, we chose a millionaires cheesecake and it was just the perfect end to an afternoon walking on the beach. It was unbelievably smooth and the balance of sweetness was perfect, and all this was delivered to us by two really lovely, friendly servers.
These are the places I love in Scotland: they’re not fancy, they’re not trying to impress you, they’re just trying to make sure everyone has a lovely day and has some tasty food in their belly and, really, what more can you ask for!?
