Mimi’s Bakehouse at Leith Shore is a fairytale. It’s like walking into a ’50s montage of fabulous pin-up girls and lush black velvet sofas with the most stunning and inventive cakes imaginable. This is hands down my favourite place to eat cake in all of Edinburgh, and there is a reason why the Scots aren’t skinny; we bake and eat a lot of great cake, so this says a lot!
I love this branch of Mimi’s Bakehouse, (there is another smaller one on the Royal Mile, perfect for popping in and grabbing a coffee and a cake whilst sightseeing) as it not only has mouthwatering cake but a genuinely interesting and great-tasting food menu. I last had macaroni and cheese with a topping of chorizo and somehow managed to find room for an oreo cheesecake the size of my head. I may have had to be rolled out of the cafe, but it was all worth it.
The staff here are lovely and it’s a great place to come for a celebration as they also do afternoon tea with champagne so I know where I’m going for my birthday next year. The location itself is a massive bonus as it lies right on the banks Leith Shore, so you can watch the ducks swim as the light flickers on the water whilst you consume your entire body weight in cake. It’s a real gem and should not be missed!
