As an avid reader, I often spend far too much money when I go into a bookshop. I love the smell of the books, the places the stories take me and I just generally get far too excited and end up buying about 15 books and leaving my bank account with a massive dip in it.
That’s why I was so happy to end up living so near an Oxfam Bookshop. It’s ideal for people like me who like to own instead of borrow books as not only do we get massively reduced prices, but our money goes to a great cause. The Stockbridge Oxfam bookshop is an especially great one as it has an excellent turnover of very popular and high quality books along side a small selection of organic, fair trade items for sale, I even bought my beautiful, colourful bedroom rug there!
They have a large selection of specialist books and even some great collectors items such as vintage editions of the architects journal and specialist postcards, and I love that the staff create genuinely interesting and well curated displays of books for the window, it always piques my interest as I walk by! It’s certainly worth a visit if you are a book collector like myself, who knows, you might end up finding a rare collectors item or even a special edition of a long loved book, and when all the proceeds go to charity, what’s to lose?
