I love that even when it’s pouring down with rain, the Scots still get out! This is how I ended up finding the crazy, delicious food market, ‘Pitt Street Market’, in a quiet industrial estate.
It was chucking it down but people were still huddled around under the small covering, listening to soulful live music, drinking whiskey and devouring plates of steaming hot food. There was a great atmosphere as people gathered together to ignore the bad weather and still enjoy their weekend, and I know it’s going to be even more amazing on a sunny day! The food was stunning, I had sticky barbecue ribs with sweet potato fries and my boyfriend had a cooked to-order steak with garlic gremolata and we stood around a roaring fire listening to great music. Even the sound of the rain hitting the roof above us gave a sort of bass line to the music and it sounded pretty spectacular.
This market stands out to me not only for having superb food ranging from burgers to seafood, but also a really great selection of bars, not just the standard pint: you can have some real fancy wine here if you like! I also appreciated the real toilet (no portaloos here!), it made the whole experience a little less ‘dirty festival’ and more boutique.
It’s on every Saturday and Sunday and gives people a chance to see and explore the Leith area of the city. Not to be missed!
