Smith and Gertrude is a cheese, charcuterie and wine lover’s paradise. I first stumbled upon this incredibly stylish bar and eatery when I first moved to Stockbridge – I was always struck by the buzz and energy it had in the long winter evenings as I watched groups of friends huddle around bottles of wine and steaming hot camembert cheese. The bar serves a specially picked set of gorgeous cheeses and meat selections alongside a wine list that stands up to any wine bar in Edinburgh and go perfect for a cold evening!
The thing that I love the most about Smith and Gertrude, apart from the mouth watering selection of high quality food is the style. It is just effortlessly cool, with a great selection of records taking up one side of the bar, whilst small colourful features like a bright chair or the cute little teapots break up the dark blues and natural woods of the interior, lets just say, I feel cool just being there!
To add to the wonderfulness of everything else, the staff are really great, they are knowledgeable and make you feel at home, so you can see why the place is so busy every night. Come in the evening with some friends, share a platter and a couple bottles of wine, or come in the day and drink one of their lovely unique teas (I love the orange and pistachio) with a piece of cake and watch the beautiful people of Stockbridge go by.
