If shopping fatigue hits whilst exploring the art galleries and shops of St. Stephen Street in Edinburgh’s Stockbridge neighbourhood – I recommend visiting Spiro for a well deserved espresso.
Sprio may be on the small side but it manages to offer a great menu of soups, paninis and coffees. It is owned and run by a Scottish – Italian family, who offer great quality food and drink with a smile and Italian tunes in the background.
The standard menu offers a selection of panini options using authentic Italian ingredients and the usual cast of coffee options. My personal favourite is a number 7 – Italian Fontina cheese, ham and mustard with an espresso. Make sure you check the daily specials board at the front door, for soup and light lunch specials.
Although it is small, I can’t remember not being able to get a seat. If you are really lucky and the sun is shining- sit outside and watch the world go by. Perhaps not as ‘in your face’ as the Starbucks round the corner but quality of the ingredients make searching it out worthwhile every time.
