The Regent Bar is an LGBT bar situated in the Abbeyhill area, slightly east of the city centre. It has a quiet, friendly atmosphere that is a million miles away from the loud, party atmosphere that you get in the other gay bars, situated in the nicknamed “Pink Triangle” area of town.
The Regent will be found in just about every beer guide that you will find, and with good cause. It has more of a focus on real ales, and has won several awards for the ones served. It proudly states that two local ales, Deuchars and Caledonian 80/- are “always on” (meaning that these beers are always available). The staff and patrons are all very hospitable, and although it’s an LGBT bar, straight people are just as welcome. It is more somewhere that I would go for a quiet drink and a snack than for a mad night out.
Drinks are slightly on the expensive side, but they tend to sell nicer beers than a lot of other places in the area. It’s also a great place to go if you love dogs, because any time that I have been in, someone always has a dog with them.
