Seemingly a regular pub on the edge of Hunter Square – complete with quaint sign and oak furniture – Tron’s secret lies beneath the surface. The staircase leads down to a cavernous basement of stone and wooden roof-beams, full of nooks and crannies, and with multiple floor levels. A regular student haunt, there’s also a pool table if you’re so inclined. The music can get quite loud: it’s not a quiet local by any stretch of the imagination.
I generally go to Tron before heading on to a gig or club: you’re generally guaranteed sitting space, and the drinks are extremely cheap for the location. A heartbeat away from Cabaret Voltaire, the Jazz Bar, and Cowgate, it’s excellent for a wee drink before moving on.
