VinCaffè is my own personal Tiffany’s. A place I can go where nothing bad can ever happen.
On Multrees Walk, the high-end shopping area of town, VinCaffè is three separate entities all rolled into one. Upstairs there is an Italian restaurant, serving a mix of fresh dishes, downstairs there is a café area serving coffee and pastries and thirdly a small shop selling wine, books and gifts.
I’ve never eaten upstairs; usually, I stop in downstairs while I’m out and about during the day. Although if the standard of the food is anything like it is downstairs I’m sure it would be amazing.
The café is often busy, especially when the typical Scottish weather means no one can sit out on their large terrace. I’ve yet to have or hear a bad word about any of the cakes, although I usually stick to my favourites, the blueberry cupcake or the macaroons.
VinCaffè is part of the Valvona & Crolla family business, a well-known Edinburgh company with Italian origins. The shop reflects a small selection of the items you can find in their largest store on Elm Row. The wine selection is excellent, and I often end up picking up wee gifts or cards.
The service can sometimes be patchy but it’s still a great spot to stop in while wandering round the shops and grab a cupcake or a coffee or a (highly recommended!) glass of their prosecco.
