When I saw the name of ‘Ic che thai’ for the first time I immediately started to laugh. The name of this place is a common question in the Florentine dialect that can easily be exchanged for an original Thai name. We say “icchetthai” very often and it literally means “what do you have?”.
This is the only real Thai place in Florence. Right beside the river, this very small place gives me the chance to remember the excellence of Thai cuisine, and when I mean Thai cuisine, I mean the food you find on the streets of Thailand. I loved their pad thai, the curry chicken and their papaya salad. This is not a conventional restaurant: to place your order you have to write it on the jotter that you’ll find on the table and give it back to the waiter and then wait for the dishes. As with real fast food all the supplies are served in plastic or paper. But they even have a small selection of good wines at a very reasonable price.
It is not possible to reserve and they only have a few tables, so arm yourself with patience and wait.
Update: In April 2016 they opened a second spot just beside Libertà square. Same food, same quality, same prices, same nice atmosphere.
