Ariston – No more gyros please

Prewarning: if you are looking for ‘gyros’, preferably served with fries, Ariston is not a good choice for you!

Given my Greek roots, many friends and colleagues keep asking me where they can get good authentic Greek food in Frankfurt. If you want to taste food similar to that cooked by Greek mamas and grandmas you should pay a visit to ‘Ariston’. This is where I bring my international friends, but also where I go with my Greek friends when we want to feel like at home.

You can start your dinner with sharing a few ‘meze’ appetizers, which is the equivalent of Greek tapas. Try fava, eggplants-salad or feta from the oven. The Greek eating culture calls for sharing the food; hopefully, you come to share your ideas and feelings as well. The portions are quite big so if you want to get a fuller picture of the Greek cuisine, dare to share your main dishes. Whether meat, fish or seafood, all dishes are cooked traditionally with a little gourmet twist. Keep some space for their desserts, especially for ‘loukoumades’, which are yummy honey doughs.

The environment is chic (of course, with a few kitsch ancient-Greek-styled items), the staff is very friendly and the environment is casual, despite the white-linen tablecloths. Although Ariston offers an excellent lunch menu, I prefer going there for dinner, which allows more time to enjoy the food and a glass of excellent Greek wine.
