One of the most popular snacks available in Germany is the so-called Currywurst – a sausage from the grill, in a spicy sauce and covered with curry powder. It is available in many variations and types, but the undisputed king in Frankfurt is the Best Worscht in Town. With by now 16 locations all around Frankfurt, these snack points have attained cult status among the locals.
Not only do they offer 8 different types of curry, from Old School to Honey-Love, they also let you pick your spice level, from mildly spicy (A) to hellfire-like burning (F). Add their delicious French fries, and the slice of rye bread you get with every sausage, and you have the perfect lunch, afternoon snack or even dinner option.
Since Currywurst is mostly sold right on the street, you shouldn’t expect to sit down while eating. Everything is served in disposable paper bowls, which only adds to the street food feeling. But although they offer nothing else, all their stores are busy almost all day. Especially around lunch time, you shouldn’t be surprised to find a line of 20 people waiting for their food.
My personal favorite is the Cheesy Curry, a mix of several curries topped with grated cheese. But be careful with the spice, although I’ve been here many times, I still don’t dare to go above B.
