Although the inner city is packed with all kinds of restaurants, delis and cafés, the Frankfurter Pause (“Frankfurt break”) stands out, mainly due to its central location next to the busy square of Hauptwache and cozy atmosphere.
While the shop itself is quite small, you can have most of their treats to go. The lunch menu contains a variety of snacks, like sandwiches, soups, or pastries, freshly baked in their own oven. My personal favorite are the cinnamon rolls (“Zimtschnecken”). If you come by at the right time, you can even grab one when they are still warm. With it go all kinds of coffee, but also some very nice organic teas.
Right next to the shopping street Zeil, the door is almost invisible between the neighboring shops. However, their logo, two white stripes on a black field, is easily recognizable, and usually the line stretches out onto the street, especially during lunch time. So after your next shopping trip to the city, make sure to stop by at this hidden gem and take your own Frankfurt break. You will love it!
