Who does not love chocolate? If you are in Frankfurt you have to visit this wonderful store, if you want to buy something for yourself or a dear person at home. At Bitter und Zart you’ll feel like in a candy heaven and be careful: it is going to be hard not to buy everything.

I love the atmosphere at Bitter und Zart, you feel that everything is chosen with taste and love: the furnishing, the shop’s windows (which are alone worth a visit), the music, the boxes for the chocolates and of course the chocolates themselves. I am reminded of the wonderful movie “Chocolat” every time I visit Bitter und Zart.

The store offers chocolates from classic to fancy so there is something for every taste and the offer also changes from season to season so you’ll always discover something new.

In the beginning of 2012 Bitter & Zart opened their Bitter & Zart Salon, an exquisite Café with Parisian flair. The furnishment of the salon is very charming, just like it is in the Chocolaterie with collages on the walls and beautiful lamps. And the offer at the salon is not less exquisite. If you order an Éclair with tea, a raspberry tart with Cappuccino or a Camembert Sandwich with grilled pear and Lemonade.

The Bitter & Zart Salon is open from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 20:00 and Sundays from 10:00 to 18:00. 

So stop by and be seduced by all those dainties!

If you are as obsessed with shoes as I am you have to visit Escape Futura. They have the latest selection of brands, some which are often difficult to find at other stores and all of a very good quality. For me it is always hard to leave the store without buying a new pair of favourite shoes.

If you are looking for edgy boots, elegant brogues, fancy ballet flats or sexy pumps you will make a find at Escape Futura. They offer a great selection of only the best shoe brands from Europe, if it is Italian brand Anniel, Billi bi from Copenhagen, schmoove from France or Clarks from Britain, to name a few. So if you buy something at Escape Futura you can be sure to wear the next IT shoe but also to wear something of good quality.

Besides the great selection shopping is always fun because the staff is very friendly and the store nicely furnished. So come and join the shoe lovers of Frankfurt for shopping in a great atmosphere at Escape Futura.

Every German city with some self-respect has its own Flohmarkt (flea market)! This is where locals gather to sell things they do not need anymore and buy things they like. If you give it some thought, this is nothing more than a way of recycling!

Every second Saturday the Frankfurter flea market takes place on the Schaumainkai (the promenade in Sachsenhausen). The location is very central and enjoys a nice view of the skyline at the other side of the river. Various stands are set early in the morning to sell a wide variety of used things, such as furniture, potteries, decorations, clothes and bicycles. Some of the stands are permanent, but is is quite common that locals attend the market randomly to sell things they do not need any more.

If the flea market does not take place on Schaumainkai you can find it in Ostend. However, I personally prefer this location, as it can be combined with a very nice walk in Sachsenhausen and early Saturday coffee. For me it is difficult to be motivated to get up on early on a Saturday, but remembering all the small treasures I have spotted at the flea market from time to time gives me courage!

A very nice spot to combine a Saturday afternoon shopping with a Saturday afternoon is “Kaffee und Kuchen” (coffee and cake). It is just across the street from one of my favorite places in Frankfurt – the old opera (“Alte Oper”).

My recommendation is the “Käse-Mohn-Kuchen” (cheese cake with poppy seeds) or, if you don’t like cakes, according to the name a homemade “Sauerteigbrot” (sourdough) sandwich with ham or cheese! Inside next to the bar is the “Manufactum” shop with lots of expensive and high-end quality things for your household where you can everything what you won’t need at all, but it looks soooo nice!

Even if you don’t have the intention to buy something for your home go inside and get yourself lost in the colorful world of: potato peeler, pepper mill, rubber boots, perfume and teapots. You will definitely be temptated to buy another dust cather for a small fortune!

Kronberger is one of the few bakeries in Frankfurt which is still a family business and bakes everything themselves. And this you can taste! If you want to taste the famous German bread with its wonderful crust you’ll find the best at Kronberger. The baguette is also the best you can find in Frankfurt and is able to keep up with real French baguette.

Every time I’m in the neighborhood I stop by and buy one of their wonderful breads. And although I have many bakeries nearby I go here because I can’t find an offer as good as at Kronberger.

But there is not only the bread. The ones who like it sweet will also find something: cookies, chocolates and espacially the amazing cakes which are changing seasonally.

Around holidays often a long queue is forming because of this invincible offer that nobody wants to miss at their celebrations.
