This is an article about bread and cakes. Why? Because Frankfurt is running out of traditional bakeries and it is nice to find these fresh and independent places where bread is not prepared for the masses, like Zeit für Brot.
The neighbourhood around the Oeder Weg is one of my favorite spots on weekends and a perfect way to do shopping away from the crowds of the city center – although you are still in the city center. I often meet friends for a coffee and a piece of the amazing ‘Apfelzimtschnecken’, which are fluffy buns with apple and cinnamon – you can also get it with chocolate chips. The small terrace is an advantage on the sunny summer days! Even if there is no time to sit and enjoy, I buy my bread and breakfast treats to take home. People often queue in order to choose among various kinds of breads, croissants, brioches and a few sorts of cakes.
To our advantage they opened a tiny second shop, ‘Pause’, in the city center which is ideal for a break to grab lunch in the middle of the week. Everything is made by them – I recommend their delicious fresh salads or one of the imaginative sandwiches with apricots and cream cheese.
