The Plaine the Plainpalais hosts many pieces of art, but most of them are not easy to see, maybe because it is the largest square of Geneva. The free app and website “Art sans RDV” has been developed to help us to find and know more about it and enjoy the meeting of art and urban space.
With the app we can walk around the square and if you are nearby an artwork a video comment is available to inform you about it, the art and the urban space. These comments are unfortunately only available in French for the moment but the map shows you around twenty spots and gives you basic information like the title, the artist’s name, the date of creation and the context.
One of the most famous artworks is “Alter ego” at the tram stop Plainpalais, which consists in four figures of bronze which amazingly look like a real person. Even I, someone who grew up in Geneva, sometimes have the impression that they are alive and say “Excuse me” to the walking woman!
I especially appreciate the light installations all around the square on the top of buildings. Each installation is an invitation to think about its message and is contemporary.
