I love secondhand shops and hunting for unique pieces but for a long time I was convinced that good secondhand shops only existed outside of Switzerland. When I lived in the Plainpalais neighborhood I discovered that Rue de Carouge hosts several vintage shops and after I checked them all out, I came to the conclusion that the Red Cross Vet Shop is the best one in the area. If you take some time and make the effort to carefully look through their goods, you will find some real gems for a couple of francs. The best bargain I made there was a beautiful silk top for 4 Swiss Francs!
They also have a huge selection of clothes for men and children, plus now in the colder season they get their ski and snow stuff out! The most exciting section for me is the one with the wedding dresses. Although I am not looking for a wedding dress, it’s always pretty intriguing and funny to look at those gowns and think about the stories behind them. Downstairs they also have a section with high quality and designer vintage clothes where I once found a beautiful dress from the 50s. I found a beautiful table cloth the other day – the shop also has a good selection of towels and other household items.
