Whoever works in the Nations neighborhood knows that there are not that many great places to spend your lunch break – especially when a young professional’s salary is still more comparable to that of a student working a part-time job than to that of a UN employee. I for my part am slowly getting tired of my employer’s cafeteria and was therefore extremely relieved when a friend suggested having lunch at Eric Emery’s bakery.
The bakery is located in a quiet residential area, away from the busy streets. It offers a huge selection of extremely tasty salads with fresh ingredients and big enough portions to get me through the afternoon at the office. My favorite salad is the Salade au Curry which is a creation of curry seasoned chicken breast on green salad with dried tomatoes and avocado. The other salads are great as well.
But since it is a bakery and a patisserie it is obviously not all about salads but also about the amazing sweet stuff such as cakes, tarts and pastries. The little tarte au citron tastes particularly good when back at the office, as a little reward for being back at work.
Claude Emery is a great place to round off an afternoon after visiting the United Nations, the ICRC or one of the other international organizations in the neighborhood.
