Summer time. A time for beaches, for outdoor concerts, for playing in the sun, and enjoying the longer days!
A tradition since 2007, the “Aubes Musicales,” or “Musical Sunrises,” have been playing classical and jazz music at the Bains des Pâquis on summer mornings. Starting at 06:00 and running to 08:00 usually in the month of August, listeners get to experience the sun rise from behind the Alps, onto the waters of the Léman and the backs of the musicians.
The concept of “6am” is, to me, somewhat frightening, especially in the summertime when the night before may have been filled with rosé… However this is a fantastic experience, every time. It starts out quiet, calm, with just a little warmth peeking over the mountaintops. You will quickly then forget the fatigue (the hangover), the worries, and relax into some beautiful music and soak in the vista.
A self-described casualty of its own success, the Aubes are officially canceled for 2017, as they are being restructured from a casual gathering to “something bigger and better,” according to what the Association des Bains, which runs the show, is promising.
HOWEVER! Fret not! For 2017, the Harmonie Nautique has decided to put on one show on the 27th of August, and I really suggest you make it. You won’t be disappointed.
Keep your eyes on this page – I’ll update for 2018 as soon as possible!
