The picturesque Saturday Market in Carouge is a really great way to start the weekend and try some local specialties presented by local farmers and shop-owners. The huge variety of products and the ambiance in general reminds me of the big food markets in France, where people indulge in foie gras and oysters to celebrate their time off. There are little tables on the square to sit down which makes the market experience more than just another run to the grocery shop. I really like to come here for a hot tea, lunch or breakfast while watching kids running around and people strolling over the beautiful Carouge market square, admiring the colorful flowers and gourmand selection of cheeses.
While most of the products are typical for the region, the Palestinian Falafel booth stands out in particular. It is a real joy to watch the busy owners prepare the falafel balls and the flatbread in the special round oven.
