In the old city centre, in Oudburg, there is a restaurant bar called Aba-Jour. The place is pretty famous with the locals. Aba-Jour is the favorite spot of one of our most famous writers, Herman Brusselmans. And I can see why.
The service is great, the food is good and not too expensive and you have a lovely view on the waterside. But when it is busy, you do can wait for your order. If you stay friendly, they stay friendly too luckily
The furniture is dark wood, so not very trendy if you have had enough of all the fancy places our beautiful city has to offer.
Here they focus on their fine beers (normally sixty of them), ‘Ghentse Stoverij’ and fresh vegetables to go with that. This is as much Gents as it gets.
For dessert, you can dig in the very tasty moeulleux, dripping hot chocolate, to die for.
Side note: when it is very busy, you can expect to wait a bit for your meal, but the staff remains graceful (mostly). And if you are a difficult eater or your guests are, put them on a seat here.
