Vooruit, today and in the past, is more than just a bar. The building is closely related to the socialist movement and has a vivid history (here you can read all about it). Today it’s a cultural temple and a meeting spot for beginning and experienced artists.

But let us stick to one of the rooms: the bar. Very important for Belgians, because this is the place where you find beer. If you’re looking for a small, cosy bar, this is not your spot. At daytime people come here to drink, eat, chat, work (free wifi), read newspapers, etc. In the evening it gets more crowded as people pop in before or after a concert or theater performance. Sometimes the bar is used for free concerts, movies or dj-sets.

If I want to experience the energy of the city, this is one of my favorite places to go to. They serve good drinks and meals (Fair Trade and organic), there is always a vivid atmosphere and still this place feels quite relaxed.

If you drop in and just wait at your table, you might not get anything at all. They only serve at the bar. Bad service? No! This is the place where everything is possible, but nothing is forced to happen! Enjoy!

Yes, I like eating lobster! And in this restaurant you can eat lobster in a very unformal, laid-back environment. Before discovering this restaurant I thought you could only eat lobster in posh, expensive, snobby restaurant, but this place shows the reverse is possible.

The restaurant is out of the city center, in the neighbourhood of the St. Pieters railway station. So you will not cross it on your way, you really have to go and search for it. Every time I went there it was booked out, so make sure you reserve a table in advance.

For €35 you get a 5-course menu, which you can check in advance on their website. One of the courses is always half a lobster and the rest is fish of course.

Try this place out! You will not regret it at all!

Discovering Ghent is very exiting, but sometimes you just might enjoy a moment for yourself. Here you maybe find what you’re looking for if you need a break while you’re visiting the capital of Eastern Flanders.

Yoga-on-call is a contemporary yoga studio in the heart of Ghent. They recently moved to two brand new spacious rooms. Don’t expect a spiritual setting, but a very straight forward, dynamic and sportive kind of yoga. All of the teachers are very enthusiastic and helpful. Normally lessons are in Dutch, but actually you don’t need much language to follow. The teachers are also helpful in English, if necessary.

This city gives me plenty of energy and since I discovered yoga I realize there are different ways how to deal with energy. A moment away from the hustle and bustle of every-days life helps me recharging. This spot is the perfect place to do so!
