Jan van Gent is also a bird, yes, but you will not find it here. I discovered this spot while eating at De Papegaai (check De Papegaai article) and what tastes good after some delicious fattening fast food? How right you are, a lovely pint does the trick. I recently got my ‘meal’ at Papegaai and ate it at Jan Van Gent. They were totally cool with that, so they are really cool, no?

Only some meters away, you have all what you need in one place for a splendid evening. This café has big windows, for a clear view on what’s happening (I am kind of big on watching ) outside.

The charming checkerboard floor gives this establishment a special nudge, which I love. In the back there is a big terrace with nice colorful lights and heated sofas! there is also a fussball table.

Jan Van Gent also organizes lots of happenings, like an improv evening or just a nice party.  Sometimes quiet, sometimes loud, check whatever evening you are here what night it is.

In Ghent we’re spoiled with all kind of cultural activities whole year round. But in summer the offer is really massive. Of course we have the Ghent Festival in July. But just before it starts we can enjoy the Gent Jazz Festival, this year for the 11th time from July 5th till 14th.

The festival takes place in the lovely scenery of the Bijloke Abbey. Where you maybe already visited the City Museum. The programme offers a wide range of artists. Starting with pure jazz, going to Blues, world music, etc. If you don’t find your choice of music on the programme, just go and discover, there will always be something which you will like.

And if the music would really disappoint you, you will be excited about the atmosphere. It is more a luxury festival in an unique historical setting.
