Whenever I want to go for a run or walk close by, I head for the Coupure. This street runs along both sides of a canal and has a line of trees separating the pedestrian walk from the main road. It offers nice views of the 18th and 19th century houses and is very tranquil.

The Coupure is the prime place for jogging in Ghent and there are always a couple of people running on either side of the water. A favorite place for fishermen and rowers, the Coupure offers a nice distraction from the monotone activity of running.

In summer students having a pick nick or drinking while listening to music occupy the shores. In order to celebrate the popularity of the Coupure, there are even “Coupure Feesten“, one-day concerts that attract a lot of the locals.

Discovering Ghent is very exiting, but sometimes you just might enjoy a moment for yourself. Here you maybe find what you’re looking for if you need a break while you’re visiting the capital of Eastern Flanders.

Yoga-on-call is a contemporary yoga studio in the heart of Ghent. They recently moved to two brand new spacious rooms. Don’t expect a spiritual setting, but a very straight forward, dynamic and sportive kind of yoga. All of the teachers are very enthusiastic and helpful. Normally lessons are in Dutch, but actually you don’t need much language to follow. The teachers are also helpful in English, if necessary.

This city gives me plenty of energy and since I discovered yoga I realize there are different ways how to deal with energy. A moment away from the hustle and bustle of every-days life helps me recharging. This spot is the perfect place to do so!

Portus Ganda is one of the four marinas of Ghent. Also if you don’t come to Ghent by boat, this place is a great spot. Its history goes back to the very basis of Ghent, the outfall of the river the Lys into the Scheldt.

From here you have a nice view of the port, the Saint Bavo abbey and the Van Eyck swimming pool. All these are well worth a visit. From June to early November the Buren van de Abdij (Neighbours of the Abbey) open up the abbey to let you discover this ancient oasis.

The city installed some benches in the middle of the river, which is a great idea. Not only because of the view, but also because it’s a great spot to relax during your visit to the city.

This is my favourite spot in the city, because it’s connected to the past and the future of the city. Water is everywhere in Ghent, but here you can feel kind of connected to it, without being on a boat.
