I used to live only a two minute walk away from the centre of Ghent’s nightlife: The Vlasmarkt. A few weeks after I moved over there, I discovered venTura. And I must say, more than four years later, I still haven’t found a better place to buy my lunch!
They sell bread and soup for take away or to eat in their lovely little café. Ghent has a lot of soup bars. But none of them cant beat the pure taste of the fiber-rich soups of venTura. The soup is daily fresh and you can choose between two types. Not much, but less choice quite often means better quality, doesn’t it?
Besides soup, they sell different kinds of sandwiches. In this place, they stick to the simple and good formula, using quality and regional products. Here you can taste Breydelham and ‘uuflakke’ with Tierenteyn mustard. The last one (uuflakke) is meat made out of the head of a pork, a typical product of Ghent. Believe me, it sounds way worse than it is and is definitely worth a try! My favorite sandwich is the one with brie, honey and walnuts. If after that you’re still in for dessert, please ask for a piece of their homemade pie!
And oh yes: Check out the gorgeous tiles on the floor when you enter!
