A rabbit hopping around in the garden and an entrance in an old villa that shouts to come in, of course I love to visit De Zuidkant. This vegetarian restaurant is as cosy as your grandmother’s house and the dishes as tasty as your mother’s dinner. Or as they say ‘Gentbrugges most elegant vegetarian take away and living room restaurant’.
The menu is handwritten in little notebooks and there are birds everywhere (no worries, not real ones). The food they serve is food that Ellen and Griet, the two owners, love to eat themselves. Pure, fresh, organic, without meat and fish. Everything is from local producers and cooked with love and great taste. I saw in a magazine lately that Gentbrugge is the new black. De Zuidkant is one of the hotspots of that new black.
