Ashton Lane is a small backstreet hidden right behind Hillhead Subway station. I love the West End of Glasgow, and this lane is one of the reasons why. Another thing I love is Fridays, and it is not unheard of that I celebrate the weekend with a night out on Ashton Lane.
This lane has cozy pubs with beer gardens, such as the Belgian Bar Brel and Irish pub Jinty McGuinty’s. If you ask me, this is the ideal place for a pub-crawl. However, a visit to Ashton Lane does not have to include senseless numbers of pints, because this spot also has several other interesting opportunities. Ashton Lane has a comfy cinema that screens movies every day of the week, and on Sundays the lane hosts a street market. If you get hungry, there are several noteworthy restaurants; you can find anything from traditional Italian risotto at Una Storia, to spectacular curries inside the Wee Curry Shop, but also contemporary Brasserie at the Ubiquitous Chip.
So how about a visit to Ashton Lane where you can dine at the Chip, one of Glasgow’s most beloved fine dining restaurants, followed by a movie in the Grosvenor Cinema, and perhaps a Guinness in a beer garden to round off?
