Balti Club – Best pakora in town

Despite the website’s claim that “curries are our specialty!”, what sets the Balti Club apart from Glasgow’s many Indian restaurants is their phenomenal pakora. Not that their curries aren’t good, but Glasgow has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to good curry houses. The Balti Club has something of a monopoly on such creations as brie, spinach and chilli pakora, and usually has about a dozen varieties on-the-go. Availability of pakora in the UK outside of Glasgow is patchy: be sure and try it while you’re here. You’ll have to look farther afield for haggis pakora, but it’s worth the effort!

The Balti Club has been on the go for decades, and offers some of the best takeaway deals in the West End. Their 100 pieces of pakora for £ 20 deal is great for parties, though they do ask that you give them 24 hours notice when ordering. The Special Gourmet Curry Out nets you three curries for a mere £ 13, plus rice, a naan bread, veggie pakora and a couple of poppadoms. Extraordinary. If you need to feed more people (or you’re just feeling hungry) the Set Meal For Four is also a bargain.

There are no tables, only a rudimentary bar/shelf thing, as the Balti is really just a takeaway. An incredible takeaway, though! It’s open till 04:00 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, perfect for that post-nightclub snack attack. Order online at Just Eat. Certified halal, special offers change frequently so check the deals in the window!
