In one of the many basement bars on Bath Street, you will find Bloc+. The bar sets a low-key atmosphere and has a great selection of craft beer. Bloc+ specializes in pub grubs, but instead of having your burger and beer whilst watching a game of football on TV, you will be listening to sweet tunes, as Bloc+ is a live music venue. However, if you intend to go a meal at this spot, the entertainment will not matter much at first. Amongst Glaswegians, it is common knowledge that all other senses, apart from the ability to taste, will temporarily shut down once you have your first bite of a Bloc+ grub.
Bloc+’s menu is diverse, and their chefs are not scared of firing up on filling toppings. Take, for instance, my favorite item, the hot dog named “the Doppelganger”: a sausage wrapped in bacon, topped with beef chili, shredded pork in barbecue sauce, jalapenos and grated cheddar cheese. Yum! This is quite a meaty choice, but if you are vegan or vegetarian, opt for the creations by the Mad Chef. This man is Bloc+’s legendary vegan chef who creates food that is out of this world.
I can give you two solid tips, if you intend to visit the beloved basement of Bloc+. Firstly, bring the appetite of a sumo wrestler, and, secondly, load up on napkins, because your fingers will get incredibly sticky!
