Demijohn – The world’s first liquid deli

Only a couple of minutes away from Hillhead subway station and very close to the Botanical Gardens, Demijohn is a thriving little shop with a very interesting story.

Founded in Edinburgh by Angus and Frances Ferguson, this family business has opened up a second branch in Glasgow, selling incredible quantities of spirits, dressings and preserves, both in store and through their online shop. The peculiarity of this ‘liquid deli’ is that every product is stored in huge, round glass bottles, the Demijohns, that are used to fill up (and refill!) smaller containers of all sizes and shapes according to the customers’ taste. All spirits are locally produced and their origin is indicated on every bottle sold, which can be personalised with custom messages and gift wraps.

From our good old Scottish whiskies and selections of flavoured mead, gin, port, rum and vodka, going to the most flavoursome oils and vinegar, the choice at Demijohn is incredibly vast. They even sell locally made jam and chutney, both in family jars and travel packs.

Feeling overwhelmed by all the colours and smells? Simply ask the staff and they will advise you on what best matches your taste and even give you a sip of their delicious produce!
