The West End of Glasgow has plenty of retro fashion boutiques catering to the student population. Several of the best ones are dotted along Great Western Road, making a dedicated “vintage shopping” trip worthwhile.
First up is Glasgow Vintage Co., just across the road from Kelvinbridge Subway station. Lots of dresses and frocks in the £ 30 – £ 40 range, with assorted belts and accessories on offer at a few pounds each for those looking to spend a little less. Check out the gents’ section downstairs for the occasional bargain military uniform. Don’t miss the army of shoes by the window!
Next up, just round the corner on Otago Street lies Retro, one of the city’s more established vintage retailers. It looks small but there’s a lower floor two or three times the size of the upstairs shop, bursting with cummerbunds, party frocks, and other refugees from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Good for hats and gloves!
Further up Great Western Road, the £10 Vintage Shop offers a huge variety of dresses, coveralls, jackets and skirts. This one won’t be around much longer, so all stock has been reduced to £5 per item!
If you’re in the mood for more shopping (and have any money left) it’s a short trip round the corner onto Byres Road and from there to Ruthven Lane (check the Ruthven Lane article) and Ruthven Mews for even more vintage goodness!
