As spring comes around the snow and rain that plague winter in Glasgow become less frequent. The crocuses begin to sprout and the light hangs about in the sky until after 6 o’clock. To celebrate this, there is often a tendency in Glasgow for everyone to get into their shorts, get ‘taps aff’(tops off) and flock to anything that resembles grass despite the fact it is only about 15C. Therefore all the parks fill up and you can often feel like a sardine fighting for space in a little tin. Very few, however, seem to linger around this spot. Perched at the top of the hill at Kelvingrove Park (check the Kelvingrove Park article), it boasts unparalleled views of Glasgow and offers a safe haven for anybody like me just fancying a decent read or just a bit of peace and quiet. Maybe because of its memorial status people show respect and go elsewhere, but it isn’t really remembering anything in particular- just one Lord’s crusade across old British India. I’m not complaining long may it stay that way. Details about this spot (Show on map)
