When I experience sugar cravings, Mrs. Mitchell’s Sweetie Shop always hits the spot. Across the City Centre, you will find various candy stores specializing in American candy, but given the immense amounts of Irn Bru flavored lollipops, this spot is clearly more favorable towards Scottish products.
Even if you are on a diet (for now), Mrs. Mitchell’s Sweetie Shop is worth a visit, as the store is an experience in itself. Entering the shop feels like walking into a different time period. The storefront and interior keep an overall old-school design with dark wooden panels, kilt patterns and retro Scottish gimmicks. Most importantly, however, is the store and how it’s bursting with diverse and colorful candy. The only way to expand the selection would be to stick candy bars onto the ceiling – and let’s be honest, that would be too much hassle for both dear Mrs. Mitchell and her customers.
If you have a sweet tooth like myself, and want to try some traditional Scottish candy, I cannot recommend a visit to Mrs. Mitchell’s Sweetie Shop enough. The store is right next to one of Glasgow’s many street art pieces, so why not stop by when you follow the Mural Trail?
