I love being told an interesting story: I love delving in to characters’ mindsets, and I love an excuse to sip wine and go out with friends. In essence, I love watching plays! Glasgow has quite a few theatres around town, but Theatre Royal is most definitely my favourite!
Although the golden entrance gives a stark and modern impression, a short walk up the curvy spiral staircase quickly reveals that this is the oldest theatre in Glasgow. Watching a play in this setting is an amazing experience. Theatre Royal has that beautiful and classical atmosphere with high, white ceilings, the big, red carpet, as well as antique (and very uncomfortable) seats. This spot also hosts events by the Scottish Opera and Ballet, so if you want to go, but cannot find any plays to your liking, remember to check out the rest of the program as well.
Before you take off, though, let me just give you a quick insider tip. Rumor has it that Theatre Royal is haunted, so you might want to think twice about catching the late show. Alternatively, you could do exactly that and take the opportunity to suit up in your khaki jumpsuit, put on your combat boots, and bring along the rest of your Ghostbuster kit! Just like picking out which of the many interesting plays to watch, the choice is all yours!
