I’m not usually one for going out for Sunday lunch, so when I make the effort it had better be good! So, out with old friends I went to Turnip & Enjoy…I was in the mood for a feed.
The restaurant is a family-run business with an amiable, warm atmosphere, unpretentious decor and staff who are very friendly, smiley and helpful, which is always a big plus! It’s on Great Western Road near great bars, cafes and music venues. The menu choices are set 2 or 3 courses for lunch for £ 15.95 and £ 18.95. The evening menu is a bit dearer and there is also a 5 course tasting menu.
Now for the grub! The food is seasonal with loads of great Scottish produce going on, and very diverse in its influences from France, Italy, Spain and the Far East. I had a starter of rabbit ballotine, jamon ham dashi, mizo caramel gel, langoustine, turnip and choo choo, which was beautifully tender and soft with a delicate spiciness. This was followed with beef short rib, malt ale, Jerusalem artichoke, chanterelles, snails, black garlic jus. The beef was the softest, tastiest melt-in-the-mouth beef that I have had in ages. I was a bit jealous of one of my friend’s main course of iberico presa, morcilla, pineapple, octopus and two jams, but they saved the morcilla just for me! New main course on the menu of rump steak, duck fat chips, confit tomato, smoked bone marrow ketchup.
New season coming, new menu on its way too.
