Especially in winter there is no other place in St. Pauli that can be so deserted, quiet, wide and eerie as the Heiligengeistfeld. Whether to skate, to join the pop-move, public viewings, kids festivals – vis-a-vis with the TV Tower and the park “Planten un Blomen”, it’s an incomparable setting. The Hamburger Jahrmarkt DOM is another good reason, again from March 21- April 21 with stalls and structured driving transactions, to get to know the Heiligengeistfeld.
Suddenly a sharp wind blows across the field coming up from the Elbe or rain will surprise you and it may well be that you forget for a moment long you’re standing in the center of Hamburg. There is no other place in St . Pauli that holds together the Reeperbahn, the Schanze and the Karoviertel like the Heiligengeistfeld does.
Centered on the edge of the field is the stadium where the soccer club FC St. Pauli is at home, recognizable by the skull the squatters brought in from the Hafenstrasse, today no one is afraid of the skull anymore. Please, dear guest, stay a little on the Heiligengeistfeld, let it sink in and confirm that this field is a gift to the quarter and the city.
The mighty high bunker from WW II can not be overlooked. Behind a 3.5m thick substantiate (nazi concrete) hides the bunker club “evil and dangerous” in which students lose themselves in wild nights or as a venue for the famous poetry slam.
Hope you share my passion for the Heiligengeistfeld…
