At the Bunthäuser Spitze the Elbe River is divided into Norder- and Süderelbe to flow around Europe’s biggest stream island Wilhelmsburg. You can park your car at the Freiluftschule Moorwerder and walk along the beautiful linden alley to reach a little wooden lighthouse at the very end. But this spot is also well-integrated into a bike or inliner tour. It’s wonderful to sit on the bench around the lighthouse, watch the stream and have a little picnic! Kids always find something to discover, to climb or to build.
Climbing the lighthouse staircase you reach a small viewing platform to watch over the streams, the orchards of Vier- and Marschlande and the reservation area Heuckenlock. The best time to visit this hidden and untouched spot is on a weekday morning, not on holidays – so you don’t have to deal with wanderers or school excursions. Try to come on a day without windy weather, as at those times it can be pretty cold and nasty out there.
