One day, I was strolling around with a friend on our birthday (yes, it’s on the same day :)) when I discovered the Elbgold Kaffee. Until then I had tried various coffee places in town and decided with the very first sip that this was by far the. best. coffee. ever! It has a very mild aroma with a smooth, almost velvety texture – hmmmm…
The Elbgold café & roast house is located in the historic “cattle halls” (est. 1896) and offers more than 20 varieties of coffee blends. They are made from organic fair-trade beans and are roasted directly on site. The milk comes from happy local cows living in the Alte Land (“old country”), but there are also lactose-free alternatives available.
In addition to coffee, tea and other refreshments, you can indulge in sweet and savory delights like bagels, cake or pastry. The rustic slightly industrial design combined with wooden furniture creates a cozy atmosphere. Here, you can either sit in a comfy armchair or lounge on a stuffed bean bag and watch the staff roast and sell coffee beans or the customers that come in all ages, shapes and sizes. On sunny days, you can kick back on the large outdoor patio.
Although it is a rather spacious place, due to its popularity it can get rather crowded, especially on weekends and in the early afternoon. In that case, just order your coffee to go and stroll over to the Planten un Blomen park (see Planten un Blomen article).
