Frappant – A creative space for everyone

A network of approx. 150 artists moved into the old police station “Viktoria Kaserne” to perform and create – to work and show their designs, fine arts, photography, urban planning, film, fashion, illustration, architecture and media art…

I was at one of the weirdest parties here with great exhibitions. The people there are very open minded and always up for a chat. Sometimes there are flea markets or one can watch the soccer worldcup on the smallest tv I’ve ever seen as open air events.

During the Wilhelmine era between 1878 and ’83 the “Viktoria Kaserne” was built as a police station. Most of the building was demolished in 1977, except for number 3 – which is now the workspace for creatives. The red brick building with the big windows reminds me of an old school. Huge corridors and high ceilings…

Often on Fridays or Saturdays you might come across some nice events and meet some chilled people there. Check out the Facebook-page or the website to find out when and what’s going on.

Check out the workshops: like how to draw comics from the first scribbles to a ready comic-story. Or explore Hamburg in the artistic way by walking, drawing and photography. Some workshops are regular, some only once. The costs are really affordable (sometimes even for free, especially for kids and teens supported by CJD).

If the doors are (surprisingly) closed: relax in the backyard of the building or in the park just right behind. Or go for a beer in Bar Aalhaus.
